The Nations League is UEFA's competition for its national teams, played in the international windows of the club season. All 54 members are sorted by strength into four leagues — A, B, C and D — and each league into groups: four groups of four in Leagues A, B and C, two groups of three in League D. From September to November every group plays a double round-robin, home and away, and the group tables decide everything that follows. In League A the top two of each group go to the quarter-finals and, from there, to the finals in June 2027. In every league the group winners are promoted, the bottom sides are relegated, and the places in between meet in home-and-away play-offs in March 2027 to settle who goes up and who goes down. The knockouts and play-offs are not on the schedule yet: they arrive as rounds when UEFA draws them.

League phase

Who plays · All 54 UEFA nations: 16 in League A, 16 in League B, 16 in League C and 6 in League D, ranked into the leagues by how they finished in 2024/25 — the promoted, the relegated and the play-off winners moved one league up or down.

Draw · Drawn 12 February 2026 in Nyon, league by league, one nation from each seeding pot into each group.

When · Six matchdays, 24 September to 17 November 2026: matchdays 1 and 2 in the September window, 3 and 4 in October, 5 and 6 in November. A League D group has three sides, so one of them rests each matchday.

How it works · Every group is a double round-robin, home and away, three points for a win; ties on points are settled head-to-head first, then goal difference, then goals scored. What a place means depends on the league. League A: the top two go to the quarter-finals, third plays a relegation play-off against a League B runner-up, fourth is relegated to League B. Leagues B and C: the group winner is promoted, second plays a promotion play-off against a third-placed side from the league above, third plays a relegation play-off against a runner-up from the league below, and fourth is relegated (in League C the relegation is a play-off, since League D is too small to take four). League D: the group winner is promoted to League C, second plays a promotion play-off against a League C third-placed side.
